Hey all!

So sorry it's been a while, life got crazy once again.  Campus has been a buzz with many different activities in the last few weeks, including the Order of Omega Halloween Carnival, the Phi Sigma Sigma Kidney Walk, and the North East Affiliates of College and University Residence Halls (NEACURH for short) Regional Conference!  Greeks everywhere have been quite busy!

Before Halloween in the Halls, the Order of Omega holds an annual carnival to amp the kids up before they go trick-or-treeting.  Sigma Gamma Phi held a table, at which the kids were able to decorate trick-or-treat bags.  They were given many different kinds of stickers and markers, and with the help of our sisters, made some pretty awesome personalized bags.  As a local sorority, it was great to be able to reach out and connect with the children of our community.  We had a great time interacting with the kids, and we had a ton of fun as well!

The Sigma Gamma Phi Liver Foundation Fundraiser was a great success, as we raised $150 for the fund.  We hope to be able to do more fundraisers like this in the future!  Thanks to all who came out to support =)

Our sisters also participated as volunteers at the NEACURH Regional Conference.  Myself, AnneMarie Cucci and Tricia Connolly have been working to make this conference a reality on the SUNY Oneonta campus for the last 8 months, and it was great to see my sisters participate in something that means so much to the three of us.  The conference was a blast, and or sisters were able to meet delegates from over 50 schools, so it was a great experience for all...and it didn't hurt that they were able to receive volunteer t-shirts!
The sisters of Sigma Gamma Phi are getting ready for our once-a-semester Sister Retreat, at which we will be doing all sorts of great sister bonding activities, playing games, and just getting a chance to be all together.

Hope you're all having a great semester-don't stress Thanksgiving is just around the corner! As Tigger once said, TTFN, ta ta for now!

SNOW?

Well in typical Oneonta fashion, it's SNOWING. On October 22nd. So not cool! This should make for a very interesting Halloween, none the less a very interesting winter.

This week is going to be jam-packed with work and activities.  Today starts parents weekend, kicking off with the annual Cardboard Boatrace (better them than I...paddling across the Hunt pond in the snow in a cardboard boat, doesn't exactly sound like my cup of tea!)  The Oneonta campus will be alive with Alumni and parents from all over, and there will be many things to do!  Next week also starts the Halloween festivities, including the Order of Omega Halloween Carnival (where Greeks set up booths for kids to participate in activities before they go trick-or-treating) and Halloween in the Halls (which everyone should participate in! The kids are so cute!)  Hopefully the kids will have a lot of fun!

On Oct. 31st, Phi Sigma Sigma will be holding their annual Kidney Walk from 11-1:30, and everyone is encouraged to come and participate, and to wear their costumes too!

After Halloween, we will be putting on our fundraiser at the Pub on Nov 4th.  Half of the proceeds will go towards the American Liver Foundation, so we'd love for everyone to come out and support the great cause, and have fun doing it!

Alumni Weekend!

It's that time in the semester again, Alumni Weekend!  It's so much fun getting to talk to alumni from all different years and learn about Arethusa from them.  We had an awesome weekend, filled with lunches and brunches and scavenger hunts.  Now that the weekend has passed, it's back to the real world.  Time to get back to our schoolwork (not as fun as seeing our beautiful alumni but it has to be done!) and finish up our midterms...

Campus Happenings

Hey all!

So it's been pretty busy here on campus since we've been back!  Today Arethusa and Pi Delta Chi are hosting a bake sale, from which all proceeds are going to the Abagail Murphy Memorial Fund.  We've had great success so far at the bakesale, and we're really glad to be supporting such a great cause.

Some other things that we of Sigma Gamma Phi are really excited about are our Alumni weekend, and the benefit concert we're hosting on November 4th!

Alumni weekend is next week, and we can't wait to see our older sisters.  It's great to get to know these sisters, and to also get to hear their stories about what Greek life was like here at Oneonta when they were in school.  Alumni weekend is also a great opportunity to connect with sisters we haven't seen in a while, so it's always a great time had by all.

The benefit concert we're holding November 4th is also going to be for a great cause.  This 18yrs & up concert will be hosted at the Pub, and will feature Kevin Shea & Kevin Kennedy (each playing solo sets) at 10pm.  It will be $3 for 18-20 year olds, and $2 for 21 and up.  Half of the proceeds will go towards the American Liver Foundation, so come out and support!

Hope everyone's having a great semester so far, and that's all I've got for now.  More next time!

Hey everyone!

Sorry it's been a while since I've posted, life got busy as usual.  So here's a little insight into my organization.

Arethusa was established on the SUNY Oneonta campus on Oct. 20th 1894.  We started as a literary society, and later adopted Greek letters (Sigma Gamma Phi).  Arethusa is the oldest recognized Greek organization on the SUNY Oneonta campus, and we strive to keep our involvement on and off campus high and to set a great example for all Greek life students.  We are actively involved in the community life of Oneonta, as our philanthropy is Opportunities for Otsego.  We believe that we should give back to the area and people who have given us so much.  We also annually participate in Relay for Life, hold blood drives regularly, and visit Robynwood (a home for the elderly here in Oneonta) to keep ourselves involved in community service.  We also strongly believe in great academics, and have won the Highest GPA award many consecutive semesters.

We obviously don't know how to center ourselves! Seniors are all in the front row =( We love you guys!

Getting a little more personal though, as an organization we love to craft, do sister-bonding events ranging from pizza parties to sleep overs, and we just love to have fun.  We're also working on a few fundraising ideas, such as selling t-shirts, hosting a concert, and having a kareoke night.

That's all for now folks (not to quote a cartoon or anything...ha!)  Hope you have a great break, read again soon!

First few weeks!

Cannot believe that we've already been up at school for almost three weeks.  Ridiculous.  Recruitment went fabulously, we have 9 new girls!
Its been a busy few weeks but we've gotten to know so many new and interesting people.  Life's finally getting back to normal and its time to focus on classes yet again...
